Curriculum Basics
The curriculum is based on the philosophy that planners must develop integrated theoretical and analytic skills to analyze social problems and evaluate public policies. Planners also must develop such professional skills as report writing, oral presentation, computer use, and team management in order to function effectively in various organizational and political environments. The planning curriculum is a two-year program leading to a master of science or arts degree in urban and regional planning. It consists of 50 semester hours, including 20 semester hours of core courses, at least 9 semester hours in an area of concentration, and 21 semester hours of electives.
Two units of credit may be awarded for completion of an approved internship with a planning agency during the summer.
