Law

Law is the most popular joint degree program. Planning and law students typically seek employment as city managers, city attorneys, city planners or planning administrators, or with legal firms or advocacy organizations as land use, housing, or environmental law specialists.

The J.D. degree in law requires 90 hours; completing the programs separately would require five years. The planning/law joint degree option is normally a four-year program; if a student enters the accelerated law program, however, both degrees can be earned in three years (including two summers). A total of 113 semester hours of graduate work is required for the joint degree, including a minimum of 35 semester hours in planning and 78 hours of law.

A brochure describing this joint degree is available here.
