Since most Planning positions are advertised from January – May for summer internships and full-time jobs, our career assistance efforts are extensive during this critical period. Beginning in January, we post 60-plus new job and internship notices weekly for students in the program. Students view the information on a password-protected area of our website and the descriptions are also posted in the student area. Typical highlights for each notice include the job title, organization, city/state, minimum requirements, salary, deadline date, and the link to the exact web page with the full description and application information. This service brings outstanding job and internship opportunities to our students, and helps them secure interesting positions nationwide.
In addition to the weekly new job and internship postings, we offer year-round efforts including individual résumé and cover letter assistance. A class in resume writing, as well as a Career Center seminar, are presented each year to prepare our students for interviewing strategies and the negotiation process, and we also maintain (and continually expand) a passcoded website with over 550 direct links to the employment pages for Planning organizations and consulting firms nationwide. This site is available to assist students and alumni who are targeting a specific city or state in their job/internship search, facilitating individual searches to complement the weekly postings for nationwide opportunities.
In 1998, we developed the first Planning Program Alumni Database, and our 700+ alumni actively contribute with alumni networking. In addition to helping our current students with internship and job searches, alumni share notices for upper-level positions on the interactive Alumni website, providing information to benefit all graduates with their involvement.
