In 2015-2016, second year Urban and Regional Planning students completed five Field Problems projects in three parts of the state, Winneshiek County in northeast Iowa, Iowa City in eastern Iowa, and Woodbury County in western Iowa. The Woodbury County projects included a comprehensive plan for the town of Salix, located south of Sioux City, and a green spaces plan for downtown Sioux City. In Winneshiek County, students completed an analysis of the benefits of trails in Decorah as well as developing a plan for future trails there. Students also completed an analysis of options and recommendations for expanding the Metronet fiber optic network in Winneshiek County. Finally, students prepared an analysis of housing affordability and demographic trends, along with options for meeting housing needs, in Iowa City.
