Graduate students in Urban and Regional Planning at the University of Iowa put their knowledge to work on real world projects with Iowa communities during their second year of study. The capstone projects, under the umbrella of the Iowa Initiative for Sustainable Communities, give valuable service to Iowans and allow the students to prepare for their professional careers. One of this year’s projects involves brownfields found in east central Iowa. What are brownfields and why do communities in Iowa want to change them?
