Associate Professor Jerry Anthony received the 2019 Michael J. Brody Award for Faculty Excellence in Service to the University and the State of Iowa. Anthony was recently recognized at an awards reception at the UI’s Levitt Center for University Advancement.  The award was jointly presented by the President Bruce Harreld and Provost Montserrat Fuentes.

Anthony was recognized for work both on- and off-campus. His predominate contribution to the local community is co-founding the Housing Trust Fund of Johnson County, which to date has given over $8.5 million to help build over 750 affordable homes in Johnson County.  He was additionally recognized for his on-campus leadership in chairing the UI Campus Planning Presidential Charter Committee and the UI Faculty Senate’s Government Relations Committee, both of which advise the UI president and administration.    

Professor Rajagopal of the College of Liberal Arts’ Department of Geography and Sustainability Sciences nominated Anthony for the Brody Award, one of the top recognitions for UI faculty. Prof. Rajagopal received 12 letters of endorsement -- from faculty in Law, Engineering, Urban and Regional Planning and the Public Policy Center, as well as current and former students. Endorsements were received from the mayor of Iowa City, a Johnson County supervisor, and the Executive Director of Shelter House. He is credited with, “extraordinary service for Iowa communities through real-world class projects with graduate students” and for providing expert housing advice to policymakers, legislators and communities across the state over a long period of time.
