According to the Planetizen 2017 rankings of master’s programs in urban and regional planning, ours is the sixth best planning program in the Midwest. Among master’s programs without a Ph.D., we rank seventh nationally. We also rank seventh in the nation among smaller planning program and fifth among planning schools in small cities. Our graduates’ pass rate on the AICP exam is 87 percent, one of the highest rates in the nation. Iowa City’s mayor and city manager are both trained urban planners who have a progressive agenda for the city’s future. The city has a four-STAR rating for its sustainability efforts and has been recognized as a bicycle friendly community.
And Iowa City is frequently ranked among the top small to medium-sized cities in the nation. Iowa City is the only UNESCO City of Literature in North America and is a lively place for the arts that includes renowned Hancher Auditorium.
The School of Urban and Regional Planning is committed to admitting a diverse student body and supporting a learning environment in which many values and perspectives contribute to the richness of the educational experience, to the field of planning, and to the communities we live and work in.
